Warner Bros. announced today that General Zod, Superman’s fellow Kryptonian and all-around bastard, will be played by Michael Shannon in the upcoming Superman film titled Man of Steel. Shannon most recently did an amazing job as a booze-chasing Federal agent in Boardwalk Empire.
I love this guy and it’s great to see him landing a part in a mass-appeal movie.
That being said, I never understood how General Zod could justify not beating the living shit out of Superman all the time. He’s a seasoned general and Superman is just some run-of-the-mill Kryptonian.
If I was sent to a planet where I could break all the inhabitants’ bones in their bodies by blowing on them too hard I probably wouldn’t develop the best fighting skills. If then a war general came to the same planet, I expect he’d be able to beat me up pretty easily. I’m just sayin…

The thing I love about Michael Shannon is that they don’t have to do anything to make him look super creepy. If they made a movie where they just flipped through a photo album with pictures of him from birth until present day, it would be the scariest movie ever made.
